The purpose of the Downtown English Department is

• to assist students in developing critical thinking, reading, and writing skills for engaging in academic and argumentative writing,
• to provide and maintain student compentency in written communication as required for successful completion of their coursework for the AA, AS, and AAS degrees, and
• to support English faculty in engaging and reinforcing successful teaching strategies to be utlized by students for successful and continued learning.
